Blackpool councillors have unanimously approved plans for a new multi-million-pound Magistrates' Court in the town.
There have been calls to "get cracking" with the three-storey new-build as soon as possible, following the premature closure of the previous court building on Chapel Street.
Plans to close the Chapel Street building were brought forward following the discovery of reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (RAAC). It made no economic sense to fix the problem, with the courthouse scheduled for closure and demolition at the end of 2024 anyway.
The new building, on the corner of Devonshire Road and Talbot Road, is expected to open in the summer of 2026. In the meantime court work has been reallocated to other venues within Lancashire.
